Ken Cavin died of Melanoma in 2005 at the age of 53. He lived for 3 yrs and 7 months after his diagnosis.
Ken and his wife traveled monthly to MD Anderson for treatments but he was already stage 4 when it was diagnosed. He was paralyzed for the last 8 months of his life from the waist down because of several large tumors that were on his spine. Ken's daughter, Desi, and her sister both go every 6 months for body checks. Desi has had several precancerous spots removed and her sister Basal Cells removed. The family found out a few months before Ken died that his sister had Melanoma on her leg, and his Mom had it on her leg about 40 yrs ago.
